It seems Ketchum is holding a competition for students to earn an internship at their company (this via PR News) To win, students have to write an essay on the following topic: Does Public Relations Deserve a Seat at the Executive Board Table?
Come on. What a "duh" topic. Of course, PR deserves a seat. This isn't even debated any more.
How about asking students to dive into something meaty, like "How is PR changing due to new communications technologies?" Or "Can PR lead to enhanced democracy? How?"
Maybe Ketchum would learn something, instead of reading about a throw away topic.
So, PR students. Do you have thoughts on the topics I just mentioned? Why not share them? If you demonstrate insight and brilliance, I bet we (this PR blog community) can find you an internship.
Send me your essays via email (include as text in email, I will NOT read attachments), and I will post the best ones here.
Length: 750 - 1000 words. I will check the word count and will not read any that go over this limit.
