Having pulled together some tips for my two analyst briefings yesterday, I thought I'd share them with you. (While these are not all-inclusive, and in no particular order, perhaps you will find them helpful.)
-- Ask questions at the beginning to judge how much the analyst/reporter knows about the problems your products are solving (industry, technology)
-- Use the analyst/reporter's name several times throughout the interview
-- Use the presentation as an anchor. Keep pulling the conversation back to it when things begin to get off track
-- If you sense a lack of understanding, go immediately into a real-life example. Use these examples throughout to clarify.
-- Beware of jargon creep. Keep to simple language.
-- If you need time to think after a question is asked, you can say "that is a good question" only one (maybe twice). After that, repeat the question back. This is a good tactic to use when the interviewer has a strong accent or if you are not quite sure what they were asking.
-- Don't start answering questions before the analyst/reporter has finished asking them. Sometimes they ramble on a bit!
-- In the end, ask them what they thought of what they just heard
-- Say thank you and follow up with a thank you email
